TL-DW ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that generates AI summaries of YouTube videos. This page explains what data it collects and how it's used.
What we collect
- Google account info: when you sign in, we receive your email address and a stable Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password or access anything else in your Google account. Your email may also be used to send you product updates, tips, or promotional offers about TL-DW — see "Marketing communications" below.
- Video transcript text: when you summarize a video, the transcript is sent to an AI provider to generate the summary. It is not stored on our servers beyond the time needed to process the request.
- Usage counts: we track how many summaries your account has used each day, to enforce free-plan limits.
- Subscription status: if you upgrade to Pro, we store your subscription status and Stripe customer/subscription IDs. We never see or store your full card number — that's handled entirely by Stripe.
- Summary history: past summaries are stored locally in your browser (via Chrome's extension storage) so you can revisit them. This history is not sent to or stored on our servers.
- Generated summaries (shared cache): we store the AI-generated summary text for each YouTube video, keyed by that video's public ID, so that once any user has summarized a video, everyone else gets an instant result instead of triggering a new AI call. This cache is keyed by video, not by account — it isn't linked to your identity.
Third parties we share data with
- AI providers (OpenAI, Google Gemini, and/or DeepSeek): receive the video transcript text solely to generate a summary. We use more than one provider so the extension still works if one is unavailable — the same transcript text is sent to whichever provider handles the request.
- Google: used for sign-in authentication.
- Stripe: processes all payments. We never see or store your full card details.
- Supabase: our database provider, storing account and usage records described above.
- Upstash: used briefly to rate-limit requests; it does not retain data long-term.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third-party advertisers.
Marketing communications
We may email you about TL-DW itself — new features, tips, or promotional offers — using the email address associated with your Google sign-in. This is separate from the transactional emails Stripe sends for billing. You can opt out at any time by emailing the address below with "unsubscribe," and we'll stop sending marketing email to that address.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account data at any time by contacting us at the email below. Uninstalling the extension removes your locally-stored summary history from your browser.
Children's privacy
This extension is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
